Selected Fe II lifetimes and f-values suitable for a solar abundance study
نویسندگان
چکیده
A selected number of Fe II level lifetimes have been measured anew with an improved experimental equipment and evaluation procedure yielding data with uncertainties around 1%. The lifetimes have been used to rescale the corresponding oscillator strengths and to derive solar abundances. On average, the iron abundance, log N(Fe) = 7.42 ± 0.09 on the scale log N(H) = 12, is further reduced supporting the lower abundance results in the literature.

Kinetic equilibrium of iron in the atmospheres of cool dwarf stars
NLTE line formation calculations of Fe I in the solar atmosphere are extended to include weak lines in the visual spectrum of the Sun. Previously established atomic models are used to discriminate between different ways of treating collisional interaction processes. As indicated by the analysis of strong Fe I lines, the influence of deviations from LTE in the solar atmosphere on the Fe abundanc...
متن کاملExperimental Mg I oscillator strengths and radiative lifetimes for astrophysical applications on metal - poor stars New data for the Mg I b triplet
Context. The stellar abundance ratio of Mg/Fe is an important tool in diagnostics of galaxy evolution. In order to make reliable measurements of the Mg abundance of stars, it is necessary to have accurate values for the oscillator strength ( f -value) of each of the observable transitions. In metal-poor stars the Mg i 3p–4s triplet around 5175 Å (Fraunhofer’s so-called b lines) are the most pro...

متن کاملIMPROVED ATOMIC DATA FOR HO ii AND NEW HOLMIUM ABUNDANCES FOR THE SUN AND THREE METAL-POOR STARS
Improved energy levels and hyperfine structure constants for a selected set of Ho ii levels were measured from spectra recorded Q1 using the 1 m Fourier transform spectrometer (FTS) at the US National Solar Observatory. Branching fractions for the strong blue-UV lines from these levels were also measured from the FTS data and combined with earlier radiative lifetimes from time-resolved laser-in...
متن کاملSimulating the metal enrichment of the intra–cluster medium
We present results from Tree+SPH simulations of a galaxy cluster, aimed at studying the metal enrichment of the intra–cluster medium (ICM). The simulation code includes a fairly advanced treatment of star formation, as well as the release of energy feedback and detailed yields from both type-II and type-Ia supernovae, also accurately accounting for the lifetimes of different stellar populations...
